Karen qualified at the Royal London Hospital, where she gained experience over 3yrs in oral surgery, before being selected to study dental hygiene at Cardiff Dental School.
She qualified in 1988 and was awarded the Oral B prize for Dental Health Education.
She then returned to her native Cornwall in 1991 where she has since worked closely with Sarah Bobin, Paul McGannity and Hannah McHugh.
